The Beckley Fund supports voluntary groups whose activities particularly benefit Beckley and the surrounding area.

Funds are given to help the village and local needs with local volunteer groups working to support their community.  Long-term, we aim to build a reserve for a time when needs of importance arise.  In the short-term grants are made to small groups.

The Fund is for the benefit of Beckley, East Sussex residents both within the community or a seven-mile radius. Not only through community buildings and public spaces but also local voluntary organisations. The charity supports (but not exclusively) organisations providing music and the arts.

We have responded to requests from Beckley & Northiam Village Halls, Beckley Guides and Preschool as well as the kitchen improvements at Peasmarsh Church, improvements to the play area on the Jubilee Field and others.

This is a Fund that supports local activity by holding donations which cannot immediately be matched to a need but needs to be administered under tax efficient and charitable conditions. Some donations nominate specific projects for which the funds are held, such as Beckley War Memorial, while the rest is available for distribution according to the Fund’s objectives. 

It is not the intention of the Fund to divert income from local groups or to replace normal fund-raising.  We know of at least one local organisation that considered claiming Gift Aid on donations too much paperwork and so the value of the tax reclaimable (25 pence for every £1 donated) was lost to them.  The Beckley Fund is a registered charity and can claim the tax and pass its benefit on to its beneficiaries.

To continue this work, we need your help.  The Fund is small and any donations or bequests will go to continue keeping Beckley a good place to live. 

The Fund

The Beckley Fund was established in 2014

Trustees – Mary Howse, Ann Jones, Anthea Setter & Tina Langmead. 

We believe that the Fund, as a registered charity, can make a positive contribution to the future of the local community.  We intend that the Fund will always be managed by Beckley people.
